The Daily P.O.P. has Character Options works on Fifth Doctor era TARDIS. Based (loosely) on a metropolitan Police Box, the TARDIS has undergone several revisions over the years and Character Options has (to date) released three of these variants in toy form; pairing William Hartnell, Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy with their own versions of the time/space machine(in addition to sets featuring David Tennant and Matt Smith for the new series). In each instance certain details have been altered but it these sets have, in my opinion, served more as celebrations of specific eras in the program’s history....

Dalekboy posted Classic Who – The Why of the Daleks. "At the time the Daleks appeared on screen, there was nothing even close to them from a visual perspective.  Apart from the fact that the series Doctor Who is totally unlike anything else around at the time from a conceptual stand point, it was also visually very different.  And nothing was more different to the norm than the Daleks...."

Radiosonic Workshop has Mini podcast. Partly to celebrate this, and partly because I had it knocking around and meant to post it some time, here's another mini-podcast. I couldn't work out how to paste this into the longer 'Writers and Influences' podcast, but it properly belongs there. It's a quick discussion of the Gothic novel, our Doctor Who, and the Gothic novel and Doctor Who in general.

The Whostorian has Episode 24 - Goodness me, there are five of me now! Follwing some interesting Motes of News, Shannon & Steve get right down to picking apart the 20th anniversary special; The Five Doctors.

The 20mb Doctor Who Podcast has Episode 90: The Invasion of Time. Adam, Isabella and Alicia kick off this week's show, talking about eBay et cetera. Adam is then joined by Ben, Kirby, Rhys and Robert Haynes for the usual banter and review of The Invasion of Time.

The Doctor Who Podcast has Episode 112 – Cybermen, RTD and Moffatt style. The Cybermen, classic monsters who terrorised the Doctor during the run of the original series, returned for the new series rejuvenated, revitalised and reinvented for a modern audience. The DWP Campervan plays host to the metal meanies this episode with Trevor, Tom and James discussing the rebirth of the Cybermen in the new series of Doctor Who.

Mondas Podcast has Episode 35. Ian Todd and Danny Davies talk Christopher Eccleston.

The Big Finish Podcast has Podcast - December 002: December Sale, Letters and Competition - 07 December 2011. Executive producer Nick Briggs is over his jet lag and back in Blighty for the first UK-based December podcast, and with him are line producer David Richardson and unproven comedy genius Paul Spragg. They're joined for this week's collection of madness and mockery by the legend that is writer/actor John Dorney, and a very special extra guest... but can you tell who it is?

Classical Gallifrey has Serial 20: The Myth-Makers. While “Mission to the Unknown,” the previous story, served as a quiet, fascinating denouement to Lambert’s time with the show, “The Myth Makers” is a ramping up for John Wiles, steering Doctor Who into the very strange and quirky territory it would remain in until the end of the Hartnell era.  While it is a “historical” for the most part, it gets away from that original concept in that it’s also intended to be a high comedy, in the vein of “The Romans” or “The Gunfighters”...

The Daily P.O.P. has Doctor Who Big Finish – Sympathy for the Devil. The Unbound series of Big Finish’ Doctor Who audio adventures is an impressive what if scenario that takes the legacy of the series in different directions with new actors playing the Doctor, such as David Collings, Derek Jacobi, Arabella Weir, Geoffrey Bayldon (once up for the part) and David Warner. It’s a great idea and opens the door to new interpretations of the classic series while giving fans the opportunity to hear new actors playing the Doctor....

BBC Doctor Who Adventure Calendar Day Seven - An Interview with Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir and Paul Bazely.

Amplify’d from www.bbc.co.uk
d11s02e14_ch_wallpaper_04_clean
Whilst The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe was shooting, we managed to speak to three of its stars - Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir and Paul Bazely. Over the course of two days we talked to them about the Christmas Special, Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee, what it feels like to be in Doctor Who and a whole lot more...

We've gathered together snippets of our conversations and present them now as a single interview...

Q: How does it feel to be in Doctor Who?

Bill Bailey: It's fantastic. It's the equivalent of some sort of knighthood isn't it, really?

Arabella Weir: Yes, it's very good fun and it's great to be in the Christmas Special!

Paul Bazely: It's pretty wonderful!

BB: But it's extraordinary the reaction to the news that I'm in Doctor Who... I just mentioned on my Twitter feed that I was going to be in the Christmas Special and the whole thing just lit up like a Christmas tree! People were going 'Ooh, ooh, what you gonna be? You gonna be an Ood?' No, no! 'What are you? Baddie? Goodie? What you gonna be?' But I couldn't say too much... I'm just worried I'm going to be tackled to the ground by some BBC spy team saying, 'No, don't tell them anything!' [laughs]

Q: How have you been enjoying the shoot?

BB: It's been brilliant.

AW: Yeah, it's great.

PB: [nodding] Absolutely.

Q: Are you long term fans of Doctor Who?

BB: Oh, yeah! I've watched Doctor Who for as long as I can remember. My earliest memories of watching TV are watching Doctor Who. I have very clear memories of the classic 'behind the sofa' moments - Cybermen particularly, but the Sea Devils, as well and the Master.

PB: I was lucky enough to meet Jon Pertwee [the Third Doctor] about 18 years ago. I was working with his daughter, Dariel Pertwee, up in Scarborough and I met him through her. He was one of the only people I've ever met that I was totally star struck by because he was the Doctor! My first Doctor! It was Jon Pertwee and he was charming and lovely! I think that's the effect Doctor Who has on you as a kid. I've met loads of famous people but he was someone special.

AW: I met Tom Baker doing a voice-over when David [Arabella's friend, David Tennant] wasn't at all well known. We were doing this voice-over together and I said to Tom, 'Oh, my friend's a really, really big Doctor Who fan,' and he replied, 'Wait!' He got his cheque book out and asked, 'What his name?' I said 'David Tennant'. He wrote, 'To David Tennant, seventeen pounds forty five', signed it and I asked him what it meant. He said, 'He'll know...'
Q: What are your characters like in the Special?

AW: I don't think we're allowed to say that just yet!

BB: We can't say that! It's a plot spoiler alert... Come on! Page 1! [laughs] We can't say much right now, but we play futuristic, forestry commission workers. We're like space gardeners...

Q: Your costumes are incredible!

PB: We were shooting all night the other evening and we were the jammy ones because everyone else was freezing but we were saying, 'I've got a wet suit on, I'm fine' but today [in the heat] we'll pay, I promise!

BB: These costumes are fantastic!

AW: They're amazing.

BB: They've articulated joints and there is this kind of suit underneath. They are fantastic and they're beautifully made.

PB: The guy who made ours also made the Judge Dredd costume for the last Judge Dredd film so I felt quite excited that I was a bit like Judge Dredd!

BB: I did a rock festival in the summer and I had a mask of myself made by the same guy. He did a fantastic job with that and this [costume] is amazing. As you can see, there's a sort of a samurai thing going on...

AW: The costumes conceal quite a lot. Bill's beard is much longer, but it's all inside!

BB: Yep! It goes all the way down... all the way down to my knees!

Q How long does it take to get in and out of the costumes?

BB: Because it's all in sections, it takes about...

AW: 20 minutes?

BB: Yeah, 20 minutes or so to get into costume itself...

PB: And once you've got them on you can't actually see your legs!

BB: No, and it gets increasingly difficult to get a cup of tea up to your lips so you have to get someone to hold tea up to you!

AW: It's good practise for having arthritis!

BB: We have gauntlets which cover the forearm which are beautifully made... the whole effect is fantastic. We haven't got the helmets to show you, but the visors are fantastic. There's all manner of things going on [with the costumes. ] They're slightly 'insecty' and a bit agricultural...

Q: Bill, are you bringing any of your musical talents to this Special, like Katherine Jenkins did last year?

BB: Not at this stage, but we'll have to see!

Q: And will you all be watching the episode when it goes out?

AW: Oh yeah! For sure!

PB: Yeah, on Christmas Day!

BB: Yes, I'm sure we will be, yes.

AW: Only the bits we're in, though, obviously! [laughs] No, of course! We would have watched it, anyway.

BB: Definitely, oh yeah!

Big thanks to Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir and Paul Bazely.

The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe is on BBC ONE, 7pm on Christmas Day.

Doctor Who - Who's He? has Show 39 - Don't dig there, dig it elsewhere. After two weeks of audio commentary, Phil & Paul return to reviewing duties with a look back at The Hungry Earth. However, neither of them can work up much enthusiasm for this story as not a lot really happens apart from some gaping holes in logic. So the result is an underwhelming and rather dull podcast. Sorry folks. But during this weeks news items, Phil makes his own entertainment by convincing Paul that he's always wanted to keep fish in a Doctor Who themed aquarium. We also have to apologise for the sound quality in the news section as Phil had his microphone on the wrong setting. The berk.

The Happiness Patrol has Episode 77: Cheese On Toast. Today on The Happiness Patrol we talk about Cheese On Toast...uh, no...Black Orchid. Lela S continues her CLASSIC WHO education with the 5th Doctor Peter Davison's fun little two parter in which Adric eats.

Doctor Whocast has Vengeance on Varos. Welcome back to another installation of Doctor Whocast! We take a step backwards this week and go back to the Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, in the arc entitled “Vengeance on Varos.” Bobby, BJ and Nancy reveal their thoughts about the good doctor, in our pursuit to get to know The Magnificent Eleven a little better. There’s only three left until our big Christmas episode, so as always, sit back, relax and enjoy the only podcast that also travels in time!

Traveling the Vortex has Episode 49 – The Midnight Special. A little less heated this weeks as we discuss the very first appearance of River Song in Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead. The Edwardian Adventurer has Doctor Who Story Number 44 – The Dominators. Time has not been kind to The Dominators.  The costumes of the Dulcians are rather ridiculous.  The costumes of The Dominators seem a bit impractical for a warrior race, even if they rely upon The Quarks to do the majority of the fighting.  The Quarks themselves seem a bit impractical and unstable, even though I do like the look of the headpieces.  And while the beginning of the story had me a bit concerned and apprehensive, in the end I found myself enjoying the The Dominators more with each passing episode....

Doctor Who costumes up for auction

Amplify’d from www.google.com
The chance to dress like a Time Lord is up for auction this month as a collection of Doctor Who costumes worth an estimated £17,400 goes under the hammer.
The most valuable piece in the 36-item collection is a wedding guest outfit sported by the current Doctor Who, Matt Smith, in 2010 episode The Big Bang, comprising a black jacket, black trousers, white shirt, cream coloured silk scarf, top hat and Smith's signature bow tie.
Those hoping to channel the unique style that GQ's most stylish man of the year 2011 has brought to the role can expect to pay between £1,200 and £1,800 for the privilege.
Another highlight is a three-piece suit worn by David Tennant which is expected to fetch between £1,000 and £1,500.
The brown tweed suit featured in 2007 episodes Human Nature and The Family Of Blood, when the Doctor was hiding under the persona of the Teacher John Smith. It includes a jacket, waistcoat, trousers, white shirt, brown bow-tie with circular motif, black teacher's cape, mortarboard and a pair of black leather boots.
A doublet and hose outfit worn by Lucian Msamati as Guido in The Vampires Of Venice, 2010, is expected to sell for up to £700.
The outfits have been put up for sale by Angels The Costumiers, a supplier of costumes to the film, theatre and television industries.
Angels chairman Tim Angel said: "Doctor Who is a perennial TV favourite, and the Angels team always looks forward to working on the show because of the extraordinary diversity of costumes that are required to bring to life the Time Lord's journeys."
The items will go on sale in the Entertainment Memorabilia auction on December 15 at Bonhams, Knightsbridge, London.
