Having announced Bernice Summerfield books to go with our upcoming Road Trip (starring Lisa Bowerman and featuring Arthur Darvill and Anjli Mohindra!) and Legion box sets, we can now reveal that the first novel, by Matthew Griffiths, will be entitled The Weather on Versimmon.
Benny isn't a stranger to the prose world, but producer Gary Russell wanted to move away from the anthologies which had become the norm and so this time the books are full-length novels. The Weather on Versimmon acts as a companion to the Road Trip box set, but that doesn't mean you have to read or listen to both in order to understand what's going on. The synopsis is as follows:
Bernice - or Benny to her friends - is on the ultimate road trip, scouring the universe in search of her missing son, Peter. Along the way, she stops off on the planet Versimmon, where she is soon drawn into an expedition investigating the legendary Caldera Archive. The Archive is a series of tapestries and artworks grown into the ground, cultivated from the giant trees in the Versimmon Forests… and seemingly influenced by the planet’s weather conditions.
The trouble is that the artworks aren’t just tree roots: they are part and parcel of the entire eco-system of the planet. The trees and everything around them are alive, for now… but unscrupulous politicians are looking for ways to butcher the forests and exploit their DNA, all so that they might recreate the artworks again and again, selling them on to the highest bidder. And all at the expense of every single life-form on Versimmon.
Now Benny and her friends have to find a way to save the Versimmon ecosystem and preserve one of the galaxy’s hidden treasures… but a storm’s already brewing in the Versimmon sky.
The Weather on Versimmon is available to pre-order now, on its own or with the Road Trip box set. If you've already ordered the Road Trip box set, simply order from the 'Box Set and book' version of the page and you'll only be charged an additional £12 for the novel.

SFX has Doctor Who Comic Characters Who Should Vworp Onto TV. John Cooper smells the pages of new Who fanzine, looking at Abslom Daak and other classic companions from the Doctor Who comic. "A couple of days ago I gushed with excitement as I finally got my hands on volume two of Vworp Vworp, a fanzine dedicated to Doctor Who in its comic strip form. It’s unapologetically hardcore with its six-page, detail-specific interviews and clearly a labour of love for editors Gareth Kavanagh and Colin Brockhurst. Oh, and the pages still smell fresh. Joy...."
Cult Box has Bill Pullman ('Torchwood: Miracle Day') interview. What drew you to Torchwood? "I had just told my agents that I didn't want to do any TV. So what did they do? They sent me the scripts for Torchwood! After reading just three episodes, I told them, "I'm in!" I could sense on the page that this was can be a terrific piece of work......"

Beware most podcasts are of an adult nature and are not suitable for children.
Radio Free Skaro has Episode 279 - Shore Leave. Well, it had to come to this eventually - a slow news week and a duff episode of Doctor Who to be commented on both occurring on the same episode of Radio Free Skaro. With little in the way of actual news to discuss, the Three Who Rule instead bandied about their mostly positive experiences while playing the new Doctor Who Adventure game, The Gunpowder Plot. And with equally little in the way of actual good Doctor Who, the Three meandered into discussions about Justin Bieber and the films of director Peter Weir. You have been warned.
Doctor Who Cast has The Three Doctors. It’s been so long! We’re back with our examination of third (and second! and first!) Doctor and the season 10 episode “The Three Doctors.” Bobby, Nancy, BJ and Brian continue their mission to cover all of the canonical doctors before the Christmas special and take live listener questions as well. Don’t worry, we handle the twitter as always and lay out a plan for Tom Baker. So sit back, relax and enjoy the only podcast that also travels in time!
The Happiness Patrol has Sometimes life will push you down. Sometimes it's hard not to let things get the best of you. Sometimes it seems like all you wanna do is give up, throw in the towel and call it a day.
Well, when ever you feel that way just remember to KBO, and in the KBO spirit today we are proud to present our interview with actor Ian McNeice. Also in this week's Happiness Patrol we present Sam Stone and David J Howe shedding light on the the writing process.
Adventures in Time, Space and Music has Episode 32 – Series 16, Part III – Dudley Simpson and the Stones of Blood. In this segment we’ll be looking at the music of the Doctor’s composer Dudley Simpson focusing on his work on Series 16, the Key to Time. In this episode we will look at his work on Serial 5C – Story 100 – The Stones of Blood, a 4-part story which originally aired between the 28th of October and the 18th of November, 1978 on BBC One.
telosam has Episode 20: Love saves , little ones , and other stories. So here is your next episode! In this episode Lindsey and Nick discuss the ins and outs of the second Gary Roberts-penned Eleventh Doctor story, Closing Time. Sit down with your tea and your crisps and enjoy a few diverting minutes of digressions regarding Captain Jack, children in Doctor Who, or anything else that drops uninvited into the minds of our hosts.

Review's Roundup...
Feeling Listless has an ancient settlement on the brink of disaster. Paul Magrs’ The Broken Crown opens with a classic bit of Tom business as he and Mrs Wibbsey, zapped back to 1861 after the events of the first instalment of Doctor Who’s Serpent Crest, set about ingratiating themselves with the locals by having a quiet drink in the pub. Sadly for the Doctor, his usual charm is short circuited because of the reaction to Wibbs’s gender, his boggle-eyed reaction to which is comedy gold. They do at least meet a Reverend Dobbs, whose young ward Andrew, who as so often the way of things retains a dark secret which may have something to do with the many disappearances in the village and whose tutor Mr Bewley looks and sounds strangely familiar. The inlay synopsis gives away rather more than that, but let’s just assume you want to retain a couple of surprises....
TARDIS Eruditorum has I Don't Look Back. I Can't. (The Hand of Fear). Yes, this is the story where Lis Sladen departs the series. But in terms of screen time, she's only actually 2/3 of the way done with her tenure in Doctor Who and related shows. This is, for her, a sort of midpoint pause in her Doctor Who career. Those who want to reflect in polite sadness can read the eulogy I wrote when Sladen passed away in April. But this is not the end for Sarah Jane....

In the real world, the concern tends to be the other way – at least in the UK, as worried campaigners declare that the out-of-town malls are throttling the life out of High Street stores in market and county towns the length and breadth of the country. But in Second Life, things are different. Here the owners of malls are concerned that the online Marketplace is offering unfair competition and ripping out the heart of their trade. Time and The—! has Marco Polo – A Lost Caravan of Delights. Bigger on the Inside has Episode 76. As the guys speed to the end of Peter Davison's era as The Doctor, both the violence and quality of the series begins to pick up. In "Frontios," despite his reservations, The Doctor comes to the aid of an Earth colony besieged by weaponized meteorite showers. Then in "Resurrection of the Daleks," Davros is freed by his creations because they need him to cure a deadly virus, but it all leads to a Dalek civil war. And the ensuing carnage, bloodshed, and death causes Tegan to flee from her life with The Doctor.

Review's Roundup...
Shadowlocked has Doctor Who complete reviews: The Time of Angels. A common comparison with Blink and its sequel is that of the first two Alien films. Whereas Alien was a brooding, psychological masterpiece of suggestive claustrophobia, Aliens is more of an out-and-out action adventure, full of flashy heroics and battles. Which is true to a point when you reassess the two Weeping Angels stories. Angels Stone is more action-packed than its predecessor, but there's still plenty of creepy moments to send the kids behind the sofa. Which is a blessed relief this season, given that we're miles away from the ghost train...
Tea with Morbius has The Kingmaker, by Nev Fountain (Big Finish audio). There is a slightly new series feel to this story. It's Bill and Ted theme park view of history reflects how the new series approaches historical stories. To be honest, I was very irritated by the anachronistic modern dialogue used by the characters, though the setting has been more carefully researched and thought out than it would be in a new series story. In a hilarious nod to BBC Wales, Richard III, played by Stephen Beckett sounds remarkably like Christopher Ecclestone, so much so that I actually had to check the CD case to make sure it was not the man himself. Beckett uses all the vocal mannerisms of the 9th Doctor and even says 'fantastic!'...
Time and The—! has The Singing Sands."I don’t know what happened, but apparently the Walt Disney Company was interested in adapting Marco Polo into a feature film, and it’s fun to speculate about what a 1960s Disney Doctor Who might have been like: John Dall as Ian, Julie Andrews as Barbara (the sands would have really sung!), Angela Cartwright as Susan, and featuring John Mills as Dr. Who. Instead, we got Dr. Who and the Daleks, which isn’t bad necessarily, but it’s not God’s gift to film, either. Ah well...."
