Carey Mulligan - our favorite Oscar-nominated Doctor Who alum - has lent her vocals to the latest Belle & Sebastian single. The tune's called "Write About Love," and in typical B&S fashion, it's charming '60s-influenced pop. And it's available as a free download. Who knew that lovely Sally Sparrow from Doctor Who's "Blink" could also sing like one? (Which is great - Mulligan has been a longtime candidate to play Eliza Doolittle in a film adaptation of the musical My Fair Lady.)

Anglophenia: Sally Sparrow Sings
Who Prom Ratings, "Wibbly wobbly explodey wodey", Deimos covered....

The Doctor Who News Page has Doctor Who Prom - Ratings, ...it was watched by 0.52 million people, according to unofficial overnight figures.
io9 has Your new Doctor Who catchphrase: "Wibbly wobbly explodey wodey.", prepare to watch what might be the silliest Doctor Who skit since the 1980s classic "A Fix With Sontarans." Yes, sillier than David Tennant on Extras. It's Matt Smith and the exploding thingy, at the Proms!
Big Finish has Doctor Who: Deimos, cover uploaded, if you don't know who the new companion is yet, don't look...
BBC Doctor Who has...
- Doctor Who Wins Best Family Drama, ...lead writer and Executive Producer Steven Moffat was also there to see Doctor Who win a second major award in a week. Karen looked sensational in a scarlet red dress and black jacket and the evening was hosted by Alexander Armstrong, the voice of Mr Smith in The Sarah Jane Adventures.
- Waters Wins Award, 'The Waters of Mars' has won the 2010 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic presentation, Short Form.

alun.vega's posterous has Series 6, day 1, after a moderate amount of build-up on Twitter last week, with director Richard Clark and writers Neil Gaiman and Mark Gatiss all providing glimpses of pre-production, the filming of Series 6 finally started today. At first it seemed that all we'd get would be tweets from @rclarkie, recording completion of the first shot and scene, but at lunchtime the production base was spotted and the game (as another Moffat/Gatiss character recently said) was afoot on!
Bob Canada's BlogWorld has The Eighth Doctor, ten years after Doctor Who was officially canceled in 1986, the Fox Network and the BBC teamed up in an effort to bring the show back, this time to American shores. They produced a TV movie starring McGann, which also served as a pilot episode. Unfortunately the ratings weren’t high enough to warrant a series. Unfortunately I think the whole Doctor Who concept is just too weird for mainstream America.
Who Fix has The Bottomless Sea of Darren, sadly, Daleks can't see the colour red so this map proved to be utterly useless.
DCL Temporal Engineers has How cool is lego?, before Second Life there was lego (and there still is!) - just take a look at some of these wonderful creations...

The Official Tom Baker forum has "Would you appear as Dr. Who again?", editor: Toms reply had me laughing at the concept of it all being a surprise.

Michael Nixon has 1998: The Infinity Doctors, something a bit different this week, as the Doctor Who Review ventures into the land of the BBC Books range of Doctor Who stories. This time around, it’s The Infinity Doctors, by Lance Parkin.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse has MHC 26.2 The Ribos Operation, Eric & co-host Josh embark on a new quest to seek out The Key to Time. Get ready for some Tom Baker, Doctor Who season 16 action. Perhaps one of the most defined series arcs in Doctor Who to date, The Doctor and his ravishing new companion Romana I find themeselves on a daring quest to save all of life, the universe, and everything.
Shadowlocked reviews: Planet Of The Spiders, Ha ha! the Doctor’s afraid of spiders. Well, it’s not quite as simple as that, even though the Doctor evidently isn’t too keen on paying a visit to the Great One (that’s a whopping great big spider to you and me). What Spiders does is to make the Doctor assess his own personality flaws. Detractors and even fans of the Dandy Doctor will tell you that his arrogance is almost on a par with Jeremy Clarkson’s. Or that his greed for knowledge knows no boundaries. Or that his hair’s transformed into a great big bouffant crash helmet over the past four and a half years. But Planet Of The Spiders recognises these flaws (well, the first two, anyway) and kills the Doctor off as a result of his ego, which is wildly out of control.

Sundays Pick of the blogs....

The Doctor Who Podcast has The DWP Quiz - Number 2, the team had so much fun doing the first one, that we recorded another one.
Dennis the Vizsla Dog's Diary of Destruction has Rerun: The Doghouse of Justice Returns, "when I last filed a dispatch, I was about to join the mysterious Doctor inside a dog house on the Planet Petco, where we hoped to hide from the fearsome Kongleks. But it turned out that this was no ordinary dog house; it was, in fact, a very special one, and one that I once knew well … The Doctor, astute fellow that he is, immediately notices that there is something unusual about the spot he has chosen as his hiding place."
WHOGold has They're All The Rage In Trenton, New Jersey!, 3, 15, 30 and 100. What do these numbers mean? Well, The Stones Of Blood was not just the 3rd story of the 'Key To Time' season, but the 100th televised Doctor Who adventure, originally broadcast in the lead-up to the programme's 15th anniversary! And this is WhoGold's 30th video. Aren't numbers fun?
Who Fix has Giant Sized Jigsaw, this is wrong on so many levels...
The Flashing Blade Podcast has Episode 1-64, oh corks! This time around Tony and the Face of Bob have a look at the first Jago and Litefoot play - and rather like what they see. Radio Free Skaro has 214 – She’s Leaving Home, the Classic Series Commentary series has ended… only to be replaced by the Series 5 Commentary series. (Any more attempts to use the word “series” will likely cause another crack in time, so we’d best stop there.) We’ve given the news segment a bit of time off… something that breaks our fictitious award-loving hearts, but on the upside it means no stats! So sit back, relax and have a listen to The Three Who Rule talk about the glorious opener to Matt Smith’s tenure!
The Omega Podcast has Episode 1-27: The Tomb of the Cybermen, Wendell and Wes kick it old school and review the classic Doctor Who episode "The Tomb of the Cybermen." The two brothers from Minnesota also go over news, feedback from listeners/viewers, and a brand-spanking-new "Five Questions for Who?"
Atomic Anxiety has The Utterly Gutless Ending of Boom Town, ...is not a bad episode. It is an excellent change of pace episode with an absolute nutkicker of an ending.

Shadowlocked reviews: The Monster Of Peladon, when it comes to polls of the Best Doctor Who story, it always ends up being at the bottom of the pile. Having to spend company with the likes of The Twin Dilemma or Time And The Rani can’t be fun. The story’s detractors will tell you that it’s like a bloated version of The Curse Of Peladon, with two extra parts that are really just surplus to requirements.

The Doctor’s amazing adventures continue on DVD and Blu-ray with the fourth and final volume of the hugely popular fifth series, featuring the last four new episodes; Vincent and the Doctor, The Lodger, The Pandorica Opens and The Big Bang.
Vincent and The Doctor sees our intrepid duo learning more about the art of terror in this new adventure where they meet the legendary painter Vincent Van Gogh! The TARDIS travels back in time but terror lurks in the cornfields of Provence and only a sad and lonely painter can see it... The Doctor and Amy join forces with Van Gogh but can the three of them defeat a powerful and deadly alien?
There’s a house on Aickman road, and a staircase that people go up, but never down in the episode The Lodger. To solve the mystery of the man upstairs, the Doctor must face his greatest challenge – he must pass himself off as a perfectly normal human being, and share a flat with Craig Owens.
In the PANDORICA OPENS, the Doctor and Amy learn that according to legend, the Pandorica contains the most feared being in all the cosmos, a monster soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. But what’s inside, and can even the Doctor stop it?
As the thrilling finale for Series 5, THE BIG BANG, begins The Doctor is gone, the TARDIS has been destroyed, and the universe is collapsing. The only hope for all of reality is a little girl who still believes in stars…

I, Valeyard by mickmoart

mickmoart on deviantART
Oh yeah, this was a fun one to do up! When I was a kid, I saw TRIAL OF A TIMELORD! Which would have a profound effect on me, even in this day and time! The final ending in the reign of the 6th Doctor's run as the Timelord was a fascinating one for me, and even now when I watch it from old library videos!
Colin Baker is put on trial, by the high council of Gallifrey by The Valeyard! Who is “learned court prosecutor” of the courts.
The Valeyard is in all four sections of Trial Of A Timelord. The Mysterious Planet, Mindwarp, Terror Of The Vervoids and The Ultimate Foe. He claims The Doctor to have transgressed the 5th Law Of Time and trying to convince the doctor that he was a time meddler and that he killed Peri. And that The Doctor is also accused of genocide.
Well, as the show progresses, you find out that The Valeyard is the darker side of The Doctor. An entity of The Doctor himself that is somewhere in-between his 12th and 13th incarnation. [Almost like The Dream Lord!]
You also find out that The Valeyard also manipulated The Matrix, the device that stores all of the Timelord information. And The Valeyard in the end, he is also sided with The Master to try to thwart The Doctor.
I thought The Valeyard was really fascinating, as far as being just as mysterious as The Doctor himself! [It would be cool if he came back in some future Doctor Who episodes!]
Doctor Who Audio News (Jason Arnopp)
I've written two Doctor Who or Doctor Who-related audio releases. They're both original stories rather than adaptations, and are as follows:
THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES: DEADLY DOWNLOAD
This will be published by BBC Audio on November 4. Every year since the TV series began, the BBC have released two original audio stories alongside the show. I'm really privileged to have written one of the 2010 pair (the other being Wraith World by Cavan Scott and Mark Wright).
I'm also delighted that Deadly Download has been read by Sarah Jane herself, Elisabeth Sladen. Elisabeth's voice is intrinsically linked with my childhood, just like Tom Baker's, and so it's amazing to have her read my 11,000-word prose story on CD.
As you might imagine from the title, Deadly Download concerns the Internet. Hopefully, it should make a fair few younger listeners think twice before chatting to random strangers while online...
DOCTOR WHO: THE DEMONS OF RED LODGE & OTHER STORIES
This will be published by Big Finish - the producer of BBC-licensed Doctor Who, as well as various other franchises - in December. I've written the title story on this collection of four tales, each of which features the Fifth Doctor (played by Peter Davison, for the uninitiated and/or forgetful) and companion Nyssa (Sarah Sutton).
One of the really nice things about this release is that two of the other authors are friends of mine. William Gallagher has written Doing Time, while John Dorney brings us Special Features. I've never met the remaining writer Rick Briggs, but he emerged triumphant from a recent Big Finish competition which earnt him this commission, so I've no doubt that his tale The Entropy Composition will be excellent.
