Wiped! Doctor Who's Missing Episodes

Amplify’d from blogtorwho.blogspot.com
Coming up from Telos Publishing next month is Wiped! Doctor Who's Missing Episodes - a book detailing the contentious aspect of the BBC's history, that of their wholescale throwing away of archive television recordings from the sixties, in a period leading to around 1977/8 when it was largely stopped by the intervention of concerned individuals. Richard Molesworth has painstakingly peeled back the layers behind these actions, finding out exactly what was destroyed and when, and then chronicling the attempts of fans to locate and replace the BBC's lost archive of Doctor Who material - with a large degree of success.

'Torchwood' attracts 'Buffy,' 'Breaking Bad,' 'House' writers

Chicago Tribune - The Watcher
Russell T Davies has firmed up the writing staff for the fourth season of "Torchwood," which debuts in the summer of 2011 on Starz.

Torchwood Davies, who created the "Doctor Who" spinoff, will of course write several episodes of the 10-part series, but other writers for Season 4 include John Shiban ("Breaking Bad," "Supernatural," "The X-Files"), Doris Egan ("House," "Tru Calling," "Dark Angel'), Jane Espenson ("Game of Thrones," "Battlestar Galactica," "Buffy") and John Fay (a U.K. "Torchwood" writer).

The writers are currently hard at work on the new season of the show, which tells an international story and feature the kind of serialized, overarching story line featured in "Torchwood: Children of Earth," the miniseries that put the cult sci-fi series on the map when BBC America aired it in 2009.

In this 2009 interview, Davies talked about his newfound love for the miniseries format, which allows him to tell one large, taut story rather than a dozen or so separate tales over the course of a season. "I absolutely love it," Davies said. "I've been writing for 20 years and it's very rare to be given a new format."

"The new series will allow Davies and his writing team to tell a more explosive and global story, one that takes advantage of the unlimited narrative opportunities of a premium television service like Starz," the network said in a June press release announcing the new season.

For Season 4 of "Torchwood," John Barrowman will return as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles will be back as Gwen Cooper and casting is underway for several new characters. Filming on the Starz-BBC co-production will begin in January, and though some of it will be shot in the U.K., a substantial part of the new "Torchwood" season will likely be filmed in North America.

The Doctor Who Audio Dramas has released End of Innocence Part two, the Doctor is a champion for justice and an advocate for the underdog. Mind of Migg has Doctor Who series 5 review, "David Tennant was my Doctor. Sure, Christopher Eccleston paved the way for the reboot, but I saw most of season 2 before season 1. So I was all about Tennant. I was skeptical heading into series 5 that things would never be the same."

Premium Hollywood has Steven Moffat discusses 2010 “Doctor Who” Christmas special…but not very much, "given that the annual “Doctor Who” Christmas special is still several months out, I knew full well that Steven Moffat wouldn’t be willing to offer up much in the way of information about what we could expect to see come December, but since I’d been fortunate enough to sit down with him – along with Mark Gatiss – in connection with their work on “Sherlock” (which comes to PBS in October), I couldn’t very well miss the chance to ask about it, anyway....."

io9 has Noah Wyle: I had a Doctor Who scarf as a teenager, we'd heard years ago that Wyle's mom knitted him a Doctor Who scarf when he was a teenager, and apparently it's true. He still has it, and he might pass it along to his seven-year-old kid when he's a bit older. This seven-year-old hasn't been introduced to Doctor Who yet, which means he's about three years too old to start discovering the show.

The Doctor Who News Page has Dead Air nominated for Best Audiobook, written by James Goss and read by David Tennant, the Audiobook was released in March this year.

But the leading expert in the field is found dead by her own hand - and by her hologlyphic assistant. Is he responsible? Does the death fit any conventional definitions? Can the Doctor realise who wrote the suicide note and why, exactly, it was riddled with spelling errors? Peri should help out, but there's a guy.

  • Reviews: Day Of The Daleks, sfter an absence of nearly five years, the Daleks were back, back, back! Even if the second Doctor mused over their apparent “Final End” in The Evil Of The Daleks, in fact, it just turned out to be a rather lengthy pause. Especially when there are ratings to be had.
  • Reviews: The Sea Devils, ...is one of the most memorable Pertwee stories, and also, arguably, one of the best. It’s neared Genesis Of The Daleks status with quite a few repeats on TV - including the 1992 one which caused quite a few laughs at my 6th form college. OK, so the music’s weird, the two blokes reacting in ‘horror’ to the invading Sea Devils at the castle looked ridiculous, but the story stands up as perfect entertainment.

The Daily P.O.P. has Doctor Who and the Evil of the Daleks, voted by many as not only the greatest Dalek story but the best Doctor Who adventure ever, the Evil of the Daleks has quite a reputation to live up to.

How to Play Amy's History Hunt

As the Doctor has disappeared and taken his sonic screwdriver with him, you'll need to enter a sequence of digits in order to crack the code that opens the safe. All you have to do is answer questions about friends of the Doctor. If you get all three questions right about a single person you release a digit and move a step further to opening the safe. But Amy explains all this in the video!

Watch her message and then click on 'Start the History Hunt' to begin the adventure! Initially you'll get a choice of three people you can investigate first. After selecting one of them you should click on the 'Find out more about...' icon. You'll be whisked away to another page where you can either plunge straight into the questions by clicking on 'Unlock a piece of the code' or find out more about the person by following links to websites and exclusive videos. All the answers to the questions can be found in there somewhere!

By correctly answering three questions you'll release a digit that automatically registers on the safe's read out. When you've cracked the code you'll have opened the Doctor's safe and find his favourite painting. And as a sign of the Doctor gratitude for your help you'll get an exclusive short story that fills you in in on what he's been up to whilst you've been helping Amy!

Right now there are three people you can investigate and answer questions about - Vincent Van Gogh, Winston Churchill and Agatha Christie. But we'll be adding more at the end of the week.

Good luck!

Bernice Summerfield: Dead and Buried Animated Trailer

Amplify’d from www.youtube.com

Dead and Buried is animated by Alex Mallinson, who has been working on the project for months.

"I've created animated trailers for Cyberman and Dalek Empire in the past but this is a much more complicated prospect," he says. "John Ainsworth and Eddie Robson have written a cracking yarn which is proving a joy and a challenge to animate.

"It's taken weeks of patient construction, animation, rendering and compositing but it doesn't truly spring to life until Matthew Cochrane's evocative sound design is added. However it's still proven more work than any of us imagined, which is why Benny Series 11 has been delayed a month. I hope this will make up for it!"

The Doctors - Who's Who?

Doctor Who is the world's longest-running science fiction television series, and has had children hiding behind sofa's since it was first broadcast in 1963. Eleven actors have played the famous Time Lord, starting with William Hartnell, and it has been a career landmark for all of them. Indeed, no other role in television history is as iconic, demanding, or as anticipated by its legions of fans as that of the famous time traveller with two hearts. Find out: * Who was a bouncer for The Rolling Stones before taking control of the Tardis. * Who was nearly blown up in the Second World War aboard HMS Hood. * Who had a fondness for woolly hats and had a grandson who would become Harry Potter's nemesis. * Who played a transvestite barmaid before becoming a Doctor Who heart-throb. Go back in time and read the human story behind a TV legend.

Wait. It did, the series just got erased from time by one of those pesky time cracks.
