Educate! Educate! That's the message from Tommy's Dalek

Berwick Today
A DALEK from the planet Skaro has invaded a Berwick training centre.
The five foot tall, lifelike Dalek, which threatens to "Ex-ter-min-ate" passers-by, is on display in the reception area at Northumberland College's Berwick centre.
Doctor Who's arch-enemy was made by technician Tommy Barnes, who helps train students at the college's construction skills centre on the Ramparts Business Park.
Sci-fi fan Tommy, from Berwick, is a carpenter by trade and constructed the Dalek himself from a range of materials, including chipboard, a sink plunger, broom shanks and a waste bin lid.
He said: "I originally made the Dalek for display at a scarecrow week in Norham village and I've kept it ever since......read more here

Dalek dredged from pond

The Sun
By VIKKI THOMAS

EXCAVATE! A deadly Dalek invasion has been thwarted – by a pond.

This Doctor Who baddy was found by shocked volunteers digging out debris from the pool near Beaulieu, Hants.

Dalek experts believe the body could have been in the murky water for more than 30 years – but the head and eye stalk were still intact.

Daleks are the Time Lord's oldest enemies and attack foes using a lethal 'death ray'.

Terrified Marc Oakland, 42, made the startling discovery.

The sales executive said: "I'd just shifted a tree branch with my foot when I noticed something dark and round slowly coming up to the surface.

"I got the shock of my life when a Dalek head bobbed up right in front of me.

"It must have been down there for some time because it was covered in mould and water weed, and had quite a bit of damage.

"One of the dome lights was smashed, but the eye-stalk was intact and the head and neck stayed in one piece as I carefully lifted it out."

The BBC took Daleks out on location for filming, and travelled to Hampshire on at least one occasion in the 1980s, when Colin Baker played the Timelord.

Jon Pertwee also made a number of Doctor Who episodes in the county during the 1970s.

Pond warden Tony Brown, 70, said: "We've dredged up everything from shopping trolleys, toys, and bicycles. But this is the first time a Dalek's appeared.

"We've all agreed it best to keep the pond's exact location under wraps. The last thing we want are sci-fi fans descending on the pond frantically searching for other Dalek parts.

"Who knows, this might be the remains of one of the originals from the old TV series. I'm told they they were built to last."

Who banks with Coutts

The Sun

It wasn’t very long ago that Matt Smith was an unknown actor struggling to make ends meet.

But the next Doctor Who has been catapulted into the big time and been handed a handsome salary to match his new-found fame.

So who better to put in charge of your piles of cash than the ultra-elite Queen’s bankers Coutts.

Matt — pictured here in London and out for the first time with his Brazilian girlfriend — has signed a five-year deal with the BBC worth a whopping £1million.

And I can reveal the new Time Lord has met with the posh bank’s bosses to set up an account.

Normally even Matt’s mega money wouldn’t be enough to get his foot in the door.

To be eligible to open a Coutts account you must have a minimum of £500,000 cash to invest or £5million net assets, such as property — and even then you are only admitted on a strict selection basis.

However, the bank can bend the rules if they think it is likely you will end up rolling in it......read more here.

Would you like to come up and see my Tardis?...

Daily Mail

By Richard Simpson

Doctor Who has rarely been at a loss for an attractive companion, and the Time Lord’s latest incarnation seems to be no exception.

Matt Smith, who takes over the role later this year, was out in London with his Brazilian girlfriend Mayana Moura, 26.

He met Miss Moura, a former model who sings for an American punk rock band, when he was holidaying in Rio last January and has returned there a number of times to see her.

This is the fourth time Miss Moura, who normally divides her time between Rio and New York, has been to Britain to see Smith, also 26.

Last week he moved to a rented property in Camden, the fashionable North London area where the couple were photographed in appropriately Bohemian outfits.

In fact, with his trilby hat, scarf and purple cardigan, Smith could have been trying out a costume for his new role.

His lover began her career as a model after she was spotted in Rio by photographer Mario Testino, who was a favourite of Princess Diana’s.

Friends say her relationship with Smith has been complicated because both are on the brink of major career breakthroughs.

‘Matt wants Mayana to move to England but she is really involved in this band. She and Matt are both at the start of brilliant careers and they are in love. I just don’t know how it will end. It is a real dilemma,' a friend from Rio said.

The pair, however, have started to date more seriously and Miss Mayana reportedly plans to meet the actor's family on her latest trip.

The punk singer already introduced Smith to her family and friends in the Ipanema area of Rio in December.

The pair celebrated New Year's Eve with friends at a penthouse overlooking Copacabana beach......read full article here
